New forms of dimensionality for the book
’Re-structure’ is a speculative research project looking at how to re- imagine the book as a performative object. Throughout the research,
the notion of ‘object-boundary’ is used to explore the anatomy of the book: its content and mode of navigating/reading it. This project aims to involve the audience in a discussion about the future of books and emerging technologies. Taking into consideration that we define the book
as being a performative object with new dimensionality attached to its surface:
- How does content translate from the traditional surface (printed, static, solid, fixed) to the new surface (digital fluid, dimensional)?
- How does this new book surface demand a new way of navigating the book content?
- How does this new performance (brought by the new book surface) transcend into the library space?

Thresholds of interpretationThe additional book elements (the paratext) form a framework for the main text and can change the way a text is received or interpreted by the public. The paratext connects to the idea of object boundary (extending the book past its original form) as well as connecting to what El Lissitzky's manifesto believed the new book to become (an apparatus that puts the reader in an active role rather than a passive role, involved in the reading experience).
